A ‘Compulsive Designer’ 6

The Unique & Timeless Creations of Custom Furniture Designer Seebe Carver

In an ever-increasing world of disposable items, finding true artisans committed to creating unique, one-off designs of quality craftsmanship have become the exception rather than the rule. Seebe Carver, Florida native and owner of Carver Design, is that exception.

Describing himself as a “compulsive designer,” here is a glimpse of the man who is admittedly passionate about his craft of fine woodworking and metal design.

How long have you been working in your field of custom finishing work?

Fifteen years.

How did you get started?

It was a long process, actually, but I picked up carpentry in college as a way of putting myself through school. From there it was just a natural progression.

Was it difficult starting out?

Yes, I couldn’t compete with IKEA and other mass-produced furnishing stores.

What’s your specialty?

Custom pieces ranging from heavy, ornate Victorian to ultra-minimalist like Scandinavian. I prefer midcentury modern.

What’s special about your creations

Their versatility. They’re all one-offs.

What makes you stand out?

I approach each piece as a problem solver taking a stand-back approach.

How long have you been working with metal?

I took up welding 10 years ago. I use the two mediums about 50-50.

Have you done any large-scale projects?

Yes, I recently completed a 20-foot stainless steel and maple conference table for the Space Coast Association of Realtors on Wickham and Pineda.

Are you involved in the community?

Yes, I’m a supporter of EGAD (Eau Gallie Arts District). We have a vibrant arts community that is largely untapped, and I encourage people to get connected with it.
