Meet Six Women Who are Having a Positive Impact on Our Community


The Realtor

Ellen Rubino

Her love of real estate all started with her dad, but after the Florida native finished school, she got into human resources before quickly starting a staffing firm. Real estate was in her blood, however, and it didn’t take long before she decided to pursue it. Now, after almost 20 years in the business as a realtor of Re/Max Aerospace Realty, she feels it’s what she should’ve done all along.

Passions: Food/wine, travel, waterfront real estate, dogs Coco and Thor

Community Involvement: Board member of the nonprofit group Cocoa Beach Main Street USA; Make a Wish Foundation, Give Kids the World


The Entrepreneur

Kate Vinson

Formerly from Bradenton, Florida, this small-business owner and entrepreneur originally went to school for apparel design and was a buyer for a boutique in Portland, Oregon. Kate then tested the waters with pop-up shops before opening her own business three years ago.

Now at the downtown Cocoa Beach location, Ginger, Grapefruit & Rosemary is a boho boutique filled with unique items inspired by her travels, including the recent addition of a fine assortment of wines.

Passions: Cooking, family, design and travel

Community Involvement: Focuses on kids for fundraisers and donations to local schools, such as Our Savior Catholic School


The Nuts & Bolts

Corine Connors

Hailing from Texas, Corine Connors has lived in Cocoa Beach for 12 years now, which is where she met her husband, Justin. She is the director of community relations for Justin’s company, Connors Wealth Management, where she manages the company’s local philanthropy and community involvement, as well as assisting clients with their real estate needs. Between work and raising their three young daughters, she’s always on the go.

Passions: Raising strong women, athletic sports, cooking and reading

Community Involvement: School volunteer and sponsor for the Cocoa Beach Art Show, the Half-Mile Marathon and the Pink Ribbon Golf Tournament at Duran


The President & CEO

Jennifer Sugarman

Armed with a background that includes marketing, public relations and communications, Jennifer Sugarman left Atlanta in 2010 and headed to Florida, where she was the manager of the Florida Space Coast EDC before eventually becoming head of the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce. When she’s not busy moving and shaking in the business world, she spends all of her time with her adorable 14-month-old son, Emmett.

Passions: Being a new mom and encouraging young people to excel, both personally and professionally, in life

Community Involvement: Board member of the United Way of Brevard; Cocoa Beach Regional Professionals Group, community service


The Business Owner

Alyssa Boyd

Owner of a small seaside real estate brokerage firm since 2001, Alyssa Boyd has a little cottage in downtown Cocoa Beach that serves as headquarters for Sand Dollar Realty. She and her contractor father have teamed up to produce and market several new condos in the area, including the upcoming Flores de la Costa project currently under construction.

A team player, when this Florida native isn’t busy working, she and her husband, Lee, are busy raising their blended family of three kids.

Passions: Family, tennis and dogs

Community Involvement: Supports and donates to the American Cancer Society and the Women’s Center


The Executive Director

Beth Javens

Currently the executive director of Downtown Cocoa Beach Main Street, this former tourism professional, part-time fitness pro and recreational golfer is tasked with keeping Cocoa Beach’s Main Street thriving. A lover of sunshine, she and her beloved dog, Rocket, relocated from California a little over a year ago to spend more time with her mom.

Passions: Runs on the beach, links golf courses, the Monterey Peninsula and insists there’s a puppy waiting to rescue her!

Community Involvement: Volunteer for service- and work-based learning through Junior Achievement USA and AmeriCorps VISTA/Corporation for National and Community Service
